How do two AI answers to one question differ in sources and facts?
This free AI answer comparator lines up two or three AI answers to the same question and shows the sources each one cited, the sources they share, the figures each states and where each names your brand. You paste the answers, so nothing is uploaded and no platform account is needed.
Part 1
Use the tool
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
1. Which AI answers do you want to compare?
Paste two or three answers to the same question from different platforms, with their source links or footnote addresses. Each comparison uses one of your free tool runs.
Part 2
How it works, how to read it, and its limits
The method, what the result means, how it differs from other tools, and what it cannot do.
2. What does the comparison show?
It shows which sources each answer cited, which sources they share, which facts and figures each one states, and where each names your brand.
- Sources: every web address in the answer, reduced to its site, then compared side by side
- Shared and unique sources: what every answer cited, and what only one did
- Figures: percentages, amounts and large numbers each answer states, so a number only one answer gives stands out
- Brand: whether the brand is named, whether your site is linked, and the sentences that mention you
This is the source-comparison step of a manual AI visibility review: who is cited for the question you care about, and what they say that you do not.
3. Why compare answers across platforms?
Because platforms often cite different sources and name different brands for the same question, so one platform tells you little about another.
- Vendor studies report that brand lists and cited sources differ widely between ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI features, though their figures disagree, so measure your own questions.
- A brand can be absent from one answer while a rival is cited, and that fact is lost if only your own mention is recorded.
- A figure stated by only one answer is the one to check against its source first.
Directional Cross-platform differences are reported by commercial GEO vendors with differing methods; treat the direction as likely and the numbers as unverified.
4. How is this different from AI monitoring tools?
Monitoring tools run prompts for you and cost money; this compares answers you paste and costs nothing.
| Question | Paid monitoring tools | This comparator |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the prompt | The tool, through platform access | You, in a normal session |
| Cost and sign-up | Usually a subscription | Free, runs in your browser |
| Data | Stored by the vendor | Stays in your browser |
| What it shows | Mentions, citations and trends over time | One question compared across answers, in detail |
Use the AI answer tracker for the weekly trend and this tool for the detailed comparison of one question.
A. How to run a fair comparison
Ask every platform the same question, in the same way, at about the same time, and note the conditions.
- Write the question once and copy it exactly into each platform.
- Use a fresh session or a clean browser profile on each.
- Use the same location and signed-in state, and note them.
- Copy the whole answer including the source list, footnotes or address links.
- Paste the answers in the same order and name each platform.
- Repeat the run on another day, because answers change between runs.
B. What to do with what you find
Each pattern points to a different next step.
| What you see | What it may mean | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A rival is cited in every answer and you are in none | Their page answers the question in a way yours does not | Read their page, then write a clearer, evidence-backed answer on yours |
| You are named but never linked | The answer knows the brand but uses other pages as sources | Make one page the plain answer to the question, with your name next to it |
| A figure appears in one answer only | One source states it, or the platform generated it | Find the source before you repeat it |
| Platforms cite different sites for the same question | Platforms choose sources differently | Track each platform separately |
Record the result each week in the tracker, and read ranking, retrieval and citation for how to separate a mention from a citation.
5. Questions about comparing AI answers
Short answers on what to paste and how to read the result.
How do I compare ChatGPT and Perplexity answers?
Ask both the same question in fresh sessions, copy each answer with its source links, and paste them here. The tool lists the sources each cited, the ones they share and the facts each states.
Does it fetch the answers for me?
No. A browser tool cannot sign in to those platforms. You run the prompt and paste what you saw.
How many answers can I compare?
Up to three at a time.
Why are the sources shown as sites, not pages?
Comparing sites shows which publishers each answer relied on. Two answers can cite different pages from the same site.
What counts as a figure?
A percentage, a currency amount, or a number of three digits or more. Plain years are ignored. Matching is by text, so "1,000" and "1k" count as different.
Is a figure only one answer states wrong?
Not necessarily. It is the first one to check against its source.
6. What can this comparator not do?
It compares text. It does not check whether a source says what the answer claims.
- It cannot open the cited pages or confirm that they support the claim.
- A source must appear as a web address in the pasted text; a name without a link is not counted.
- It reads a single run of each prompt, and answers vary from run to run.
- It does not rank sources or score the answers.
